What does it look like to rest in the Lord? What does it mean to find your renewal in Him, being satisfied with all He provides, not looking to earthly desires to fill you up? How do you seek God in such a way that He actually FILLS you up and renews your soul in His presence? What does comfort in Him look like when you are placed in a physically and emotionally uncomfortable situation?

Life in general, and even here, can be so good at times, but also so hard and so exhausting. We get run down, tired, worn out. Sometimes we break. And yet, we’re expected to just keep going. To act as if nothing happened, like we’re invincible. But we are not. We aren’t made to just keep going and going. We are designed to actually need a pause from normal life and take real time out to be filled up. To refocus and remember the Lord in the midst of the hurry of life.

It is literally one of the Ten Commandments:

“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work” Deuteronomy 5:12-14

So what does this mean for me?

Here on the World Race we as a community take a full day every week to rest. There is nothing on the schedule and we are encouraged to be filled in the presence of the Lord. I love this practice, it teaches me to take all I’ve learned throughout the week to the Lord, to process with Him and to be filled with all He provides.

I am learning to seek Him also in the times that I am lacking. Even when I don’t sleep well, or when I am hungry, or having a hard day,  I can find peace knowing that He provides all I need in abundance, and in Him I lack no good thing (Philippians 4:19, Psalm 34:10). He is my sustenance and He WILL meet me in whatever state I am in at ANY point during EVERY day. My fears, doubts, struggles, and brokenness are nothing to Him, and in His presence they all fall away.

Are you resting in the Lord each day, and setting aside time to recharge with Him each week? If not, I would love to challenge you to do so, it may seem inconvenient in the moment, but the rewards are far greater than anything else you could have been doing in that moment. He will meet us when we choose Him.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

“If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18

Enjoy your week and Happy October! 🙂
